FIRE APPARATUS DRIVER/OPERATOR It should be the goal of every fire department to train it's driver / operators to meet all the pertinent requirements contained in NFPA 1002-1998, Standard for Fire Apparatus Driver/Operator Professional Qualifications. This standard is designed so that driver/operators may certify to only those portions that apply to the types of apparatus that their department operates. The Division of Fire Safety is now offering the first level of these certifications for Driver/Operator - Pumper. Successful completion of an approved Driver/Operator course or other equivalent course and the practical skills that are included with the course are required to be eligible to take the state certification exam. Certification is granted to those individuals who meet the required qualifications and successfully pass the appropriate Fire Apparatus Driver/Operator certification examination. All qualifications must be met and documentation supplied to the Division of Fire Safety prior to admission to the examination. General requirements include: B. Applicant must be a resident of Missouri, or employed with a fire department within the state. C. Applicant must have completed all requisite requirements according to NFPA 1002. D. Applicant must have completed an approved Fire Apparatus Driver/Operator training program according to NFPA 1002, and provided verification of successful completion of the course and all required practical skills. E. Applicant must attain a minimum score of 70% on the appropriate level of the Division of Fire Safety's Fire Apparatus Driver/Operator certification examination. Fire Apparatus Driver / Operator Certification Exam: The Fire Apparatus Driver/Operator Certification Exam will be generated and administered regularly by the Division of Fire Safety. The written exam for this level consists of 100 multiple-choice questions. You will have two hours to complete the exam. Applicants will be notified by the Division as to whether they pass or fail within 30 days. In the event that an applicant fails the examination, the applicant may apply to retake the examination within one year from completion of the course.
