IMPORTANT NOTICE REGARDING MU ON-LINE OPERATIONS COURSE:

The Division of Fire Safety will no longer accept the MU On-Line Hazardous Materials Response - Operations for certification.

Effective February 1, 2008, the Univeristy of Missouri Fire Rescue Training Institute has removed the On-Line Hazardous Materials Operations Course from their website.

HAZARDOUS MATERIALS AWARENESS & OPERATIONS

The challenges facing the fire service expand with each passing day. One of the most consistently changing areas is that of hazardous materials.

The Division works in partnership with the Fire & Rescue Training Institute to provide Awareness and Operations level training. The Division provides funding for many of these courses and certification for individuals who successfully complete the course and appropriate certification exam.

Hazardous Materials Awareness and Operations Certification Exams:

Awareness - The written exam for this level consists of 50 multiple-choice questions referenced to the NFPA 472 standard, Fire & Rescue Training Institute’s curriculum, the Emergency Response Guidebook, and IFSTA’s Hazardous Materials for First Responders, 2nd edition. Students have one hour to complete the written exam. The student must achieve a score of 70% on the exam in order to qualify for certification

Operations - The written exam for this level consists of 100 multiple-choice questions referenced to the NFPA 472-2002 standard, the Fire & Rescue Training Institute’s curriculum, the Emergency Response Guidebook, and IFSTA’s Hazardous Materials for First Responders, 2nd edition. Students have two hours to complete the written exam. The student must achieve a score of 70% on the exam in order to qualify for certification. The practical skill exam is to be completed during the Operations Course.

Awareness and Operations certification levels are internationally accredited by IFSAC.
