FIRE SERVICE INSTRUCTOR Fire Service
training presents many challenges, all of which can be met by well-prepared and educated
instructors. Instructors provide the fire fighters and emergency responders with the
knowledge and skill resources that enable them to perform their jobs in a safe and
effective manner. The
Division has continuously worked toward the improvement and education of Fire
Instructor Certification Exams: Instructor
I - The written exam for this level consists of 100 multiple-choice questions which are
based on the NFPA 1041-2007, Standard for Fire Service Instructor Professional
Qualifications. (For questions on test referencing download the Fire Service Instructor
Certification booklet below). Students have 2 hours to complete the written exam. The
student must achieve a score of 70% on the exam in order to qualify for certification. The
practical skill exam is to be completed during the Fire Service Instructor I Course. Instructor
II - The written exam for this level consists of 50 multiple-choice questions which are
based on the NFPA 1041-2007, Standard for Fire Service Instructor Professional
Qualifications. (For questions on test referencing download the Fire Service Instructor
Certification booklet below). Students have 1 hour to complete the written exam. The
student must achieve a score of 70% on the exam in order to qualify for certification. The
practical skill exam is to be completed during the Fire Service Instructor II Course as
well as completion of a development project. Fire Service Instructor I and II certification is internationally accredited by IFSAC. Certification booklets are available for download by selecting the
