On
September 7, 2005, Randy L. Cole, 19 year veteran of the Missouri Division of Fire Safety,
received final confirmation to the position of Missouri State Fire Marshal by the Missouri
Legislature. Cole, 46, a 1980 graduate of Central Missouri State University, in Warrensburg, joined the Division of Fire Safety in 1986 as a Fire Investigator. He was promoted to Regional Chief Investigator in 1989, which increased his duties to include supervising other investigative staff located in the eastern half of the state. In 1996, he was promoted to Assistant State Fire Marshal. As Assistant State Fire Marshal, Cole was responsible for the supervision of the Boiler & Pressure Vessel Safety Unit, the Elevator Safety and Amusement Ride Safety units, Fire Safety Inspection Unit, as well as formulating, promulgating, and implementing rules and regulations for Amusement Ride Safety, Boilers and Pressure Vessel Safety, Elevator Safety, Pyrotechnic Operator Licenses and Fireworks Licensing Programs. He also collaborated with other state agencies on fire safety rules and regulations governing state-licensed facilities. He was involved in the management of the Division budget, including meeting and conferring with legislators, legislative panels, and provided technical testimony on the Division's legislative initiatives. As Missouri State Fire Marshal, Cole insists that his staff continue to offer the best services to ensure the safety of the citizens and firefighters of Missouri.
