Effective July 2008 the Fire Inspection
Unit is responsible for the fire safety inspection of long term care facilities licensed
by the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services. The Division of Fire Safety has a well established Fire Safety Inspection Unit comprised of a Deputy Chief, two regional chiefs and 14 inspectors stationed throughout the state. The unit inspects licensed child care facilities, license exempt facilities, senior citizen and nutrition centers, state operated mental health facilities, and fireworks retail and wholesale facilities. State, municipal, or county officials may also request fire safety inspections of facilities. The Fire Inspection unit conducts over 12,000 inspections state-wide annually.
